Last Shot is the SIXTH offbeat (and very funny) mystery in the Dev Haskell Private Investigator series.

Dysfunctional PI Dev Haskell receives a request from beautiful, red-headed Desi Quinn to investigate the trumped-up charges that ruined her life and sent her to prison six years ago. Desi's life was destroyed after a brief relationship with upstanding citizen, Man-of-the-Year Gaston Driscoll, who just happened to be her boss. She views Dev as her last hope--her last shot--but the impossibly dangerous scenario she describes makes Dev think the investigation would be out of his league; he politely declines.

As Desi's story slowly unravels, Dev realizes (under a mountain of guilt) that he made a huge mistake. He embarks on a mission to make things right, only to become a killer's next target. An entertaining tale of intrigue, rank ineptitude, and raucously entertaining one night stands, Last Shot is another funny, fast paced, engrossing thriller from Minnesota’s master of the bizarre.

I always grab the Dev Haskell mysteries when they are free on Kindle. They are pretty funny, though quite repetitive. I found this one to be rather boring, though, and often chose to read something else instead. It’s decent enough as a mind vacation, but I don’t really recommend this one. There are other books in the series that are much better.

Last Shot Dev Haskell Private Investigator Book 6 edition by Mike Faricy Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

We don't have many terrific comic mystery writers - Donald Westlake was one - but Mike Faricy is one of our best - maybe the best we have now. You know what I like about his detective, Dev Haskell? Haskell is one of our own; a friend we probably have, or like ourselves. Stuff just goes wrong sometimes - even most of the time - but in the end, Dev Haskell's got what anyone would want - a love and few bucks to keep life going.
Dev Haskell has his own brand of Justice along with his own code on women but he can be a good friend in a pinch. In this book he focuses on taking down a powerful man who seems like an upright citizen but behind the scenes he brutalizes and hurts women. Devs later books with his dog Morton are even better.
I just finished the book. The author is really good, loved the characters, but didn't like the one female's character with the foul mouth. Really? The two flaws I found with the books was one The author described every setting in detail, restaurant, office, clothing, furniture, etc, (well done, but distracting). Two the book suddenly ended, every thing being solved almost at once. My opinion only. I would like to write like he does, just leave out the fluff.
I can't get enough of these books! I love the characters. Though there is little in the way of redeeming qualities to any of them you still manage to have sympathy for them. You couldn't create a more perfect antihero than Dev. Each case is as good as the last or better and I look forward to reading every one! I really think these stories would make a great TV show!
The twists and turns, the snarky comments, Dev's "luck" with the ladies, his drinking hobby, and his persistence, luck and determination all make for a 1st class story. Keep up the great work!
I enjoy the Dev Haskell series of mysteries. I like the humor in the stories and keeps the pace up. One nice thing about this series is that you can read any one alone, they are not dependent on the earlier books. Looking forward to reading the next one. "Last Shot" is a little different in that Dev tries to avoid taking this case only to be dragged in. He is crude and a womanizer but still makes for an entertaining story. Definitely would recommend this series for people who like mysteries infused with humor.
I enjoy reading the cases of Dev Haskell. The characters are funny and well developed, many are serial. So, after a while, you look at them as family, however, crazy. But doesn't everyone have crazy family members?
I mostly like the banter, the put downs, and the implied self-deprecation, all in up to date street language. Many times I laugh, uncontrollably. The moment I open a Haskell mystery I see him sitting at the bar at The Spot, nursing his third, or perhaps his fifth beer, waiting for his office partner and occasional lawyer, Louie who is most like out there to plea-bargain a DUI case. No matter what the plot is, always an enjoyable read.
I have been reading the Dev Haskell series since book one and I have enjoyed every one of them. This one was no different. Fast paced action, interesting characters, good plot. This time Dev tackles a seemingly good guy who is very toxic to his relationships. To the rest of the world he is a pillar of the community. I didn't exactly like the ending as much as some of the other stories but after some reflection I thought it was really the only way justice could be done. I do recommend this book, but anyone who has read any Dev Haskell will already know that it's a good book.
